So a guy walks into a bar with an octopus, and he says, "This octopus can play any musical instrument in the world." Artichoke, an alternative Los Angeles band formed in 1999, has a good time playing around town, even without the amazing octopus. Artichoke likes Pavement, Pixies, Blur, Beatles, Robyn Hitchcock, Beck, Breeders, Wire, Talking Heads, Frank Black, Luna, Liz Phair, Radiohead, Imperial Teen, Elliot Smith, The Smiths, The Cure, The Flaming Lips, Stereolab, The Fall, The Sex Pistols, The Kinks, REM, Weezer and a zillion others. We've got drums, bass, not one but two (2!) guitars, a sound gizmo, and genuine vibrating vocal chords. Come see us at Canter's Kibitz Room in West LA at midnight on the second friday of each month, or around town at a number of venues including the (mal)odorous Al's Bar and the ever-trendy-yet-frequently-fulfilling Spaceland.
